North Phoenix is a newer area of Phoenix developed mostly in the last decade. We've defined North Phoenix as the area north of Highway 101, and west of I-17. North Phoenix is very accessible to these major highways, making it a desirable area for commuters looking to live in newer areas but still commute to downtown Phoenix. Though major employers in North Phoenix are few, 2 notable exceptions exist- The USAA company headquarters and a the Dial Corporation (a subsidiary of Henkel KGaA) headquarters. Major shopping centers include the Desert Ridge Marketplace on the east side, and the Shops at Norterra on the west side. Outdoor enthusiasts aren't far from Lake Pleasant (boating, fishing, camping, hiking) on the west side, and the Cave Creek Recreation area (hiking, horseback riding), just north of North Phoenix.
